Dialectical Behavior Therapy

DBT helps manage emotions and improve relationships through practical skills and strategies. I will teach you new new skills to manage painful emotions and decrease conflict in relationships. DBT specifically focuses on providing therapeutic skills in four key areas. First, mindfulness focuses on improving your ability to accept and be present in the current moment. Second, distress tolerance is geared toward increasing your tolerance of negative emotion. Third, emotion regulation covers strategies to manage and change intense emotions that are causing problems in your life. And fourth, interpersonal effectiveness consists of techniques that allow you to communicate with others in a way that is assertive.

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy

Through ACT we will focus on accepting thoughts and feelings while committing to your personal values. This action-oriented approach to psychotherapy stems from traditional behavior therapy and cognitive behavioral therapy. You will learn to stop avoiding, denying, and struggling with your inner emotions and, instead, accept that these deeper feelings are appropriate responses to certain situations that should not prevent you from moving forward in your life,

Feminist Therapy Approach

The “F-word” has come under attack lately in our society, but I am not afraid to use it to the benefit of all my clients’ women and men alike. A recent article equated Feminism to Humanism. Humanist beliefs stress the potential value and goodness of human beings, emphasize common human needs, and seek solely rational ways of solving human problems. This is what I want to do for you. I want to lift you up and celebrate you for all the work you put in every day. You and I will discover the impact diversity, gender, and sexism, has had on your life and explore ways for you to make both personal and social change. You will identify your strengths which will help you recognize and embrace your own power. Together we will break down societal norms and you will learn to look at your own unique identity and not conform to what people think you should be.
